AMPANG, Malaysia - The bouncer who claimed trial to the attempted murder of Kepong Umno Division Youth chief Datuk Norizan Ali was granted bail by the Sessions Court here to treat his arm injuries.
Mohd Haswan Hashim, 22, is accused of injuring Norizan, 41, using a parang, causing injury to his arm, stomach and body.
He was charged with committing the offence with tow truck driver Mohd Azril Ab Shukur, 28, in front of the victim's house along Jalan Cahaya 2, here at 2.30am on Sept 24.
Mohd Haswan's counsel Muhammad Zarif Othman pleaded for bail, saying his client's arm injury had not been treated while in prison since he was first charged on Oct 4.
"I ask that my client be given bail to address his injuries. His family is here today to act as bailers, and are willing to take additional conditions for bail," he said.
DPP Nadiah Malek Fauzie maintained that Mohd Haswan should not be granted bail due to the severity of his alleged offence.
Under section 307(1) of the penal code, he faces a maximum 20 years prison, a fine or whipping if convicted.
Judge Manira Mohd Nor allowed bail at RM10,000 with one surety.
She gave the additional conditions that Mohd Haswan report in to a police station on the first of every month, surrender his passport, and not be allowed near the victim or witnesses' families.
Upon being given bail, Mohd Haswan shouted "terima kasih Hakim (thank you, your honour)," and was seen crying as he was lead out of court.
The judge set Dec 27 for the pre-trial conference.
On Oct 4, his alleged accomplice Mohd Azril - who was unrepresented- pleaded guilty to the same charge and was sentenced to six years prison by Judge Manira.
