SINGAPORE: The boss of an IT company who allegedly slapped a member of his staff has been charged in court.

A video of the incident went viral in May 2013, and triggered public outrage.

43-year-old Lee Yew Nam, the boss of software company Encore eServices, faces a total of six charges. Five are for hurting his 30-year-old employee Calvin Chan Meng Hock, and one for verbal abuse.

Lee is accused of slapping Mr Chan at his office in Jurong Town Hall Road between July 2010 and January 2011.

In January 2013, Lee allegedly slapped Mr Chan again. The following month, he allegedly punched Mr Chan and pushed him, causing him to lose his balance and fall off his chair.

On two separate occasions in May 2013, Lee allegedly grabbed Mr Chan's chin, pushed it, punched and slapped him. Lee also allegedly used vulgarities on Mr Chan.
