Boon Lay is fast becoming a hot spot for Burmese people living in Singapore as many shops and businesses catering to Burmese expatriates have sprung up in the Boon Lay area recently, says STOMPer Traveller.

The sender says that even notices placed on notice boards are written in the Burmese language.

The growing Burmese culture at Boon Lay Place reminds him of the old days when Peninsula Plaza at North Beach Road used to be a popular area for Burmese businesses.

In an email, STOMPer Traveller says:

"These pictures were taken at Boon Lay Shopping Centre at Boon Lay Place.

"There are several shops here selling Burmese products and you might think you are in Yangon.

"There are also notices glued to the walls with Burmese words and some are advertisements by housing agents and landlords .

"With the influx of Burmese, many units of HDB flats in Boon Lay are now rented out to these foreigners.

"This shopping centre is reminiscent of Peninsula Plaza at North Bridge Road."
