Bogus cop’s two-year crime spree ends
AMPANG: Police nabbed a 31-year-old man who had tarnished their image by impersonating a cop while committing crime over the last two years.
He was arrested minutes after he and his accomplice robbed a 21-year-old student off his mobile phones and RM20 near Pandan Perdana here.
Ampang Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Amiruddin Jamaluddin said in the recent incident, the duo, who were on a motorbike, stopped the student’s car before identifying themselves as policemen.
He said they flashed a false authority card to convince the victim that they were from the police force.
However, a police team on its crime rounds spotted the two bogus cops robbing the student and immediately gave chase. They arrested one man while the other escaped.
Police seized a pistol, a knife, police authority card and drugs from the suspect. He has 10 previous criminal records and is on the police “wanted list”.
“The suspect has been remanded to facilitate police investigation under Section 395 of the Penal Code for robbery,” ACP Amiruddin said.
