The news is true, I was in my GF's house in Guandong I saw her neigbor, the old lady display preserved baby fossil in the glass container(at least 3 bottles), so errrr.... but I didn't see them making baby herbal soup.

Apparently some of this has to do with anti abortion groups coming from the US which are against Chinese pop control practices. With couples wanting male babies, female babies are aborted.
This is also common in India where infantcide is common.
When you read about things on the net, you need to think about where the news is supposed to be from. In China where there is good access to internet as well as a strong system of law and order, it is hard for such things to happen. Also, the country is relatively well educated and thus hard for such items to happen.
If the country did not have strong law and order, citizens are not well educated on a whole and if there is pervasive beliefs in mysticism/religion then it is possible for such things to happen. Even then it is no likely to happen
