Bulgarian investigators believe they have identified the suicide bomber who blew himself up on a bus
yesterday, killing five Israeli tourists and the bus driver.
Bulgarian Interior Minister Tsvetan Tsvetanov described the suspect, with his bermudas and back-pack as
indistinguishable from thousands of other travellers.
It is believed he put a bag in the luggage compartment of the bus and then climbed aboard. Many of the
injuries suffered by the dozens wounded in the blast were to lower limbs.
Israel is pointing the finger at Iran although Tehran has formally denied any involvement in this, the first
attack on Israelis on Bulgarian soil.
However Bulgaria's Foreign Minister Nikolai Mladenow said it was a "mistake" to blame countries or groups
while an investigation is ongoing.
Police are still trying to identify the suspect. They say he was 36 years old and carrying a fake US driving
licence issued in the state of Michigan.
