"Shud rapist be castrated as a form of punishment?"
No.
For simple reason that in every justice system, whether USA or China or Singapore, there will always be a percentage of cases in which the 'found guilty' had actually been innocent, eg. kena set up. This is particularly risky for justice systems like Singapore in which the accused is presumed guilty unless proven innocent.
Unlike jail, physical castration is permanent, irrepairable damage. How would you feel if you were the one who kena setup and castrated when you are actually innocent (and the real rapist goes free)?
This is the reason why I'm ethically & morally & spiritually against lynching and vigilantes. There are *always* innocent victims. And 'guilty' by one person's judgement is not necessarily 'guilty' by another's judgement (see who happens to be in power), especially in controversial cases where there may more than meets the eye. Do not ever be too eager to be judge, jury and executioner.
Even being executed in a prison, you would feel some human dignity and respect. As a victim of a lynching, the mob would feel like they represented everyone and you would feel totally unloved by everyone. Nobody deserves that, no matter what.
Lynching accused people (who may be innocent) to a painful and undignified death (unlike prison executions) is an ugly side of humanity that has always been around :
