KUALA LUMPUR - Police have shot dead one of the suspects involved in a robbery at a bank in Bandar Sri Damansara early morning today.
Selangor police CID chief Mohd Adnan Abdullah said the suspect was shot dead at Kampung Chubadak, Jalan Datuk Senu 3 early this morning.
In the 4.30am incident, police spotted a white BMW driven by the suspect at Greenwood, Gombak which was used in the robbery and gave it a chase.
"Realised he was followed by a police patrol car, the suspect sped off toward the Gombak toll.
"He then abandoned the car at the toll and went into a silver Toyota Vios which had someone waiting in the car there," he told a press conference yesterday.
Adnan said when the police approached the car, the suspect started to open fire with a pump-gun.
Police fired several shots at the suspect's car in a 15 kilometre chase before the suspects lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a nearby surau.
"The policemen were forced to return fire at the suspect out of self-defence, killing one of the suspect on the spot," he said.
He said the dead man, aged 33, was from Kelantan while the second suspect managed to escape.
"Police found a pump-gun which was seized from the security guard during the bank robbery in Bandar Sri Damansara on Monday and a gun in the suspect's car," he said.
He said the BMW car used by the suspect was reported missing in Setapak while the Toyota Vios was reported stolen in Sri Damansara earlier this month.
"The dead suspect had six previous criminal records for robbery and car theft," he said.
The suspect's body was taken to Kuala Lumpur Hospital for post mortem and police were in the midst of tracking down of the remaining suspects.
On Monday, three men had robbed a bank in Bandar Sri Damansara before fleeing with more than RM200,000 (S$8,000) cash.
Two of whom were armed with guns, took two security guards hostage and fired several shots at the ceiling during the 2.40pm robbery.
They then fled in a car in which two accomplices were believed to have been waiting.
