A Krungthai Bank cash delivery van was attacked by gunmen this morning in Chiang Mai's Wiang Haeng district, but the driver sped away and the robbers were left empty handed, reports said.
The reports said the van, from KTB's Chiang Dao branch, was heading for tambon Muang Haeng of Wiang Haeng district when a group of men blocked the road and tried to stop it, apparently to stage a robbery.
The driver did not stop but drove off at high speed as the gangsters fired at it with an AK47 rifle.
Since the van was bullet-proof, the driver and bank employees escaped unharmed.
Chiang Dao police are searching for the attackers, who are believed to have fled toward the border with Myanmar in Wiang Haeng district.
