Bangladesh Hindu-Buddhist-Christian Unity Council has condemned an attack and vandalism at a Hindu temple under Gharindha Union Parishad of Tangail Sadar Upazila.
The incident took place at a Kali temple in Poyla village of the area during a Hindu ritual on Friday evening.
Local people said a group of 50 to 60 armed men led by one Ashraf and Alamin entered the premises on the pretext of having holy food served during rituals at the temple. They then vandalized the temple and attacked those inside—injuring at least 15, including women.
Five people were rushed to a local hospital, local people said.
Protesting the incident, the Tangail unit of the Bangladesh Hindu-Buddhist-Christian Unity Council—in association with Bangladesh Puja Udjapon Parishad—organized a human chain and rally in the Aladatpara area of the city yesterday.
Central leaders of the council, including presidents Ushaton Talukder, Prof Dr Neem Chandra Bhowmik and Nirmal Rozario, strongly condemned the attack and demanded immediate arrest of all the attackers. They also sought their exemplary punishment.
