Mufti Jashimuddin Rahmani, chief of the Ansarullah Bangla Team, an Al-Qaeda-inspired militant outfit now known as Ansar al Islam, was released from the Kashimpur High Security Central Jail in Gazipur on Monday.
He is a convicted criminal in the blogger Rajib Haider murder case,
Jashimuddin Rahmani was released from the Kashimpur High Security Central Jail at around 11:15am on Monday.
The Deputy Jailor of Kashimpur High Security Central Jail, Rezaul Karim, confirmed the matter.
On the night of February 15, 2013, Rajib Haider was hacked to death in front of his house in Palashnagar of Pallabi in the capital. Rajib's father filed a case with Pallabi police station following the incident.
Mufti Jasimuddin Rahmani was arrested from Barguna on August 12, 2013.
A Dhaka court sentenced him to five years in prison in the murder case.
In addition, he faced a total of four cases, including those under anti-terrorism and Information and Communication Technology (ICT) laws.
Deputy Jailor Rezaul Karim of Kashimpur High Security Central Jail stated that Rahmani was granted bail in a case filed under the anti-terrorism act with Uttara West police station filed on February 6, 2008.
He was granted bail in the case on Sunday.
Other cases against him have been withdrawn. After verifying the bail documents, he was released.
