<!-- story content : start --> JAKARTA - THE US embassy in Indonesia on Thursday said it had received warning of a New Year terrorist attack from the governor of the resort island of Bali, the scene of multiple bombings targeting Westerners. In a statement carried on its website, the embassy said the Bali Tourism Board had widely distributed a message from Bali Governor Mangku Pastika warning of an attack. 'The Governor of Bali Mr. Mangku Pastika wishes to share a message with all of us: There is an indication of an attack to Bali tonight,' it quoted the message as saying. Revellers across the globe prepared Thursday to ring in the New Year with fireworks and festivities under tight security after a narrowly-averted Christmas Day airline bomb plot in the United States. Partygoers from Tuvalu to Tijuana were set to raise a glass to bid farewell to 2009 and usher in a new decade, closing the door on 10 years scarred by wars, terror attacks, natural disasters and financial turmoil. Heavy security - and a downpour of confetti - are in place for New York's traditional mass celebration of the New Year on Times Square. No backpacks or alcohol will be allowed in the square on Thursday, an intersection in the heart of Manhattan famous for its giant electric billboards, tourist attractions and nearby theater district. As huge crowds watch the famous Times Square crystal ball marking the final countdown to 2010, undercover police officers, surveillance cameras, uniformed teams and radiation and biological detection equipment, will be monitoring them. - AFP.
