A new-born Chinese baby was rescued safely after it fell into a squat toilet and become stuck when its mother gave birth prematurely at her home, mainland media reports.
Firefighting soldiers and police officers rushed to the woman’s home in Yichang, in Hubei province, after she was unable to free the child, the Changjiang Daily reported.
One police officer managed to grab hold of the baby while the soldiers carefully dismantled the toilet, the newspaper said.
The mother went into labour at 6pm on Thursday – the first day of China’s seven-day National Day holiday.
The report did not say whether the baby was a boy or a girl.
