Two men have been arrested on drug charges while in possession of over 800,000 methamphetamine pills and 1.5kg of crystal methamphetamine, or ice, with a total street value of about 200 million baht.
Pol Maj-Gen Kamronwit Thoopkrachang, the acting metropolitan police chief, identified the two at a press conference today as Karan sae Heng, 26, and Sitthi Sithiwattana, 26.
He said Karan had been followed since late last year after police learned he was a member of a drug network led by a Taiwanese identified only as Chen.
On Tuesday, police followed Karan when he drove a car from Bang Bua Thong to a department store in Nonthaburi. In a search of the car in the store's car park police found 6,000 speed pills.
Karan admitted there were more speed pills in a house at a housing estate on Kalapapruek road in Chom Thong area of Bang Khun Thian district and that Sitthi had the key.
Following a telephone call Sithi arrived with the key. Police opened the house and found in it 800,000 methamphetamine pills, 1.5kg of ice, one .22 pistol with 62 rounds of ammunition, and two bullet-proof vests.
Police charged the two with having drugs in possession with intent to sell.
