The shooting death of a man at Burleigh Heads on Saturday and other recent firearm incidents on the Gold Coast are not connected, police say.
A 35-year-old man was shot and killed and his 26-year-old male companion was shot and injured on the footpath outside McDonald's at Burleigh Heads on the Gold Coast Highway just before 6am (AEST).
Both victims were known to police.
Earlier this week a man was shot outside a convenience store in Coomera and last month a man was shot at a boat ramp at Runaway Bay.
Gold Coast superintendent David Hutchinson said police were concerned about the nature of the crimes but they were not connected, dismissing any suggestions of an increasing pattern of violence on the tourist trip.
"There is no indication that this incident is connected to any other violent crime on the Gold Coast in recent weeks," Supt Hutchinson said.
"We're always worried about crime like this.
"Anybody that is getting around in a public place with firearms and is prepared to shoot people is always a concern."
Supt Hutchinson told reporters it was not a random attack and no guns or weapons were found when one of the victims' cars was searched.
The vehicle has been impounded for forensic testing.
"We're still trying to piece together the circumstances of what occurred," Supt Hutchinson said.
"We can't say exactly how the shooting occurred."
He said they have witnesses "who have seen different snippets of what occurred at the time" and the man who was killed was hit in the torso.
Police said it was too early to confirm if the meeting was arranged.
The wounded man was taken to Gold Coast hospital with minor injuries.
Police have not released the name of the man who died.
They are appealing for witnesses and anyone with information to call Crimestoppers on 1800 333 000.
