AN Australian man is reportedly among 10 dead killed when an Indonesian nightclub burst into flames early Friday morning.
Indonesian media are reporting that Surabaya-based man Peter Lee, 35, was killed when fire ripped through the Red Boxx cafe in Java.
Police Lt. Col. Bahagia Dachi said an Australian man and a Japanese man were among the dead, who had apparently gathered to watch the World Cup soccer.
He told the Jakarta Post that police had identified the bodies as 36-year-old Japanese Yoshifumi Ciba, and Peter Lee, a 35-year-old Australian. Both worked at Indonesian companies.
A Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade spokesman said the Australian Embassy in Jakarta was working with local authorities in Surabaya to confirm the man's identity.
The dead included a mother and the the baby she apparently gave birth to during the tragedy.
Five remain in a critical condition in hospital.
