NEGRI SEMBILAN - Doctors and nurses at Hospital Jempol, Negri Sembilan, were jolted when a group of men armed with parang stormed into the hospital's emergency ward and began attacking a patient who was seeking treatment there, Harian Metro reported.
The incident happened at about 8pm on Sunday when the 35-year-old victim sought treatment at the hospital for a head wound sustained in a fight with a 21-year-old man at 6pm.
It was said the victim had confronted the man who allegedly harassed his younger sister living in Taman Satelit, Bahau, resulting in a fight between the two men.
The victim, who was injured in the fight, was taken to the hospital by his sister and was with other family members when the gang attacked him.
The five attackers were all in their 20s.
Jempol OCPD Supt Hamzah Alias confirmed that two people have been detained.
State Health director Datuk Zailan Adnan refused to elaborate on the incident.
It is learned that police have beefed up security at the hospital with assistance of Rela personnel to prevent a repeat of such incidents.
