<!-- START OF : div id="storytext"--><!-- more than 4 paragraphs -->I REFER to the letter, 'Untrained sweeper', by Ms Kuah Kar Yoke (Dec 24).
We are appalled to learn of the incident at Boon Keng MRT station.
We have investigated the matter and found that the cleaner was trying to clear some litter she had found on the ledge which was beyond the glass barrier in the concourse area.
Regrettably, she did not realise that doing so would cause some of the dust and dirt on the ledge to fall onto the platform area where passengers were waiting for the trains.
When this happened, the cleaner should have apologised to her instead of walking away.
We are taking appropriate action with the cleaner concerned and her supervisor to ensure this incident is not repeated. We have also directed our vendor to confine such cleaning activities to the duration when the station is closed for the day.
We are sincerely sorry for the distress and inconvenience caused to Ms Kuah. We thank her for bringing this matter to our attention and for helping us to improve our service. Tammy Tan (Ms)
