While taking a bus or the mrt, have you ever seen anyone asking for a seat? What was the response from the person being asked?

Have you yourself ever asked for a seat or asked on behalf of someone? What was the response?

If it is an idiot who has no backbone to stand, I will just simply ignore him/her.....

Frankly, I've never asked for a seat. I'd look rather a silly fit adult in prime asking for a seat. I've also never seen anyone, whether old, infirm or pregnant asking for a seat. I give them my seat voluntarily. I've seen some others giving them their seats voluntarily too. However, I've also seen, more frequently the cases, youngsters and adults in their primes on their seats ignoring old folks and pregnant ladies. Quite sad. :(

Of course when I asked whether you have ever asked for a seat, I would expect only an elderly, disabled, pregnant or seriously ill person to reply in the affirmative.
I have also seen many cases of people giving up their seats and many cases of people not giving up their seats, with different responses.
But the interesting thing is "Why do people not ask for seats?" And the subsequent responses.

Yes but they don't ask they just stand infront of you and stare at you and expect you know what to do. 1 time while taking a ride from Jurong east to Simei around 12noon I fell asleep when suddenly I flet a bump at my leg. Opened my eyes and saw a middle age couple and the women was pragnent. Funny thing was I was at the middle of the train not seated at 1 of those corner seats so how come walk all the way to me and want my seat? After I alighted my friend told me that they asked the students at the corner seats to let them sit and they refused. Just so happen they were walking down and bump into me and woke me up and being a gentleman I just stood up and offered my seat to them:p But thats no all. The most funny and crazy thing happened while I was taking the train to work at Ang Mo Kio station during morning peak hour. This couple rushed in and the husband found a seat and quickly sat down. His pragnent wife came in behind and could not find a seat. Guess what the husband did? He shouted to his wife in hokkien " KNCCB U don't know how to tell people u expecting ar and tell them to give u their seat at? " The best part was he was seated in 1 of the seats

In most chinese cities... people willingly give up their seat to the aged and disabled... some even to hawkers carrying their ware...

If someone just stares at you and expects you to know that they would like your seat, I don't consider that asking. That's one of the points I'm trying to make, if someone wants or needs a seat, just ask. Don't expect one to be offered or expect people to read your mind or empathize with your condition.

As for the man with the pregnant wife, he would have got hell from me.

That's why I wonder why some Singkies think that we are better than the people from China.
The fact is that we are not in many ways.

Not sure about the rest of you guys but given this sort of circumstances, I won't give up my seat even if his wife were to ask for it.

I am surprised with that.

The China Chinese in Singapore don't really seem different in manners compared to Singaporeans. :p
