The biggest disappointment was not trying traditional Filipino dishes. Why? We simply could not find them! We visited enormous amount of local food stands and restaurants asking for balut, adobo, asado, daing and more and we we have heard was “Not here. We have some fish and fried pork only.”, “Do you want to try noodles instead?”, “We have some boiled eggs”.
Why do you think Filipino restaurants don't sell traditional Filipino dishes? Because they know, better than anyone else, that Filipino food sucks! But Pinoy pride, so they won't ever say it outright. But their actions (refusing to sell traditional Filipino dishes) speak louder than their non-words.

"I'm Filipino and I don't like our food!"
"I would say Filipinos go and eat at restaurants of other cuisines more often than people from other countries. In China, it's normal to eat at Chinese restaurants maybe 80% of the time, while in the Philippines, when people go out to eat, it's probably like only 20 to 30% to "Filipino" restaurants. Just go to a shopping mall and count how many "Filipino" restaurants are there and most likely less than a third. There are probably as many Chinese restaurants, a lot of fast food, some Western fine dining places, and quite a number of Japanese/Korean restaurants too."
Hmm... even Filipinos don't like to eat Filipino food much... I wonder why???

So why is Filipino food unappealing? (And here I totally agree. I have a lot of Pinoy friends, and while they go back for the occasional comfort food, they mostly avoid Filipino food with a hearty laugh.) It’s because the ‘good’ food was always labeled as from another culture. Chinese, Spanish, Javan, Thai, etc. They eat all that and can’t get enough. Even good fried chicken is seen as generic, so not solely Pinoy.
We had a Filipino maid when I lived in Singapore. She was an amazing cook. One evening, I told her that I was having a friend from the PRC over, and that he had been eating in restaurants for the last 4 weeks, so she should cook something for a homesick Chinese guy. He was almost in tears when she cooked him some steamed fish, rice and greens. Everything was just right. She learned a fair bit of French, Italian, and American cooking while living with us by reading cookbooks and watching Youtube and getting help from us. Now she lives with some carb-free Aussies, and the food she posts on Facebook makes me want to cry.
Anyhow, we asked her a couple of times to cook something Filipino. She looked really nervous. “No sir. Filipino food is not very good.” “C’mon Josie. What do you guys get homesick for. Let us try that.”
Eventually, we were invited to a party of theirs. The food was amazing, and she showed us this stewy dish. “This one is Filipino” she told us nervously. We ate some, it was bland, starchy…and we went back for the spring rolls. “See. It’s not very good,” she laughed.

Can I just say that I’m embarrassed as a Filipino right now in regards to SEA Games hosted by my country:
-Really ugly logo
-Super mediocre cauldron
-Lack of care for our athlete visitors
-and just dumb organization

Team Myanmar complained :
Myanmar U22 Team has got some problems as soon as they get to Manila, Philipine.
Myanmar Team has arrived to Manila, today's afternoon.
But, the team had to wait for the bus for hours at the Airport. After the bus has arrived, and inside interior room in the bus is also not comfortable about really for support the staffs & players. This bus look like minibuses and is not as good as even the vehicles that are being used as trucks in villages of Myanmar.
Myanmar planned to do some training at the evening before.. But now they can't do team training as planned and expected due to these problems.
#MFF has to complain about that to #AFF.

The Timor Leste team were apparently made to wait nearly three hours for the buses to their hotels, following which, they were promptly taken to the wrong hotel.
Even the Filipino team themselves kena jialat jialat :

on Saturday
Arrived to our SEAG hotel at 11:30 am. Rooms weren’t ready yet, so we ate lunch while they fixed our rooms. Instead of 2 people per room as was the original plan, now we’ve to adjust to 4-5 people per room. It’s now 2:15 pm and the rooms STILL aren’t ready. They moved us to a function room, so we wouldn’t crowd the lobby for other arriving teams. Sad that we’re the Filipino host team and this is how we’re being treated. I can’t imagine how other countries must feel.
According to Manila Bulletin, the Thai football team faced insufficient food options and a lack of drinking water. The situation was so dicey, that the Thai government apparently stepped in to provide more Thai food for the participants.
Singapore wasn’t spared from food issues either.
According to a Straits Times article, the chef de mission of the Singapore contingent wrote to organisers in response, to a host of other issues, the lack of catering for the predominantly Muslim footballing team.
And all these issues before the 2019 SEA Games event even begins.

According to ST, several team officials had to forgo lunch due to insufficient food.“For example, at dinner the halal options were just plain rice, pita bread and brinjal lasagne. And with the other teams also requiring halal food, there just was not enough to go around.”
And all these issues before the 2019 SEA Games event even begins.
