"Can I just say, as an American who just watched Dr. Vivian Balakrishnan on CNBC, you guys are very fortunate to have a man like that in representing your country.

I wish we had someone with his level of intellect and calmness tackling the COVID-19 issue in the US, and I've become a new admirer. You guys are very lucky. :)

As a redditor in Seattle, WA, the city government officials have very proactive in efforts to combat COVID-19 compared to other states in the US, but as a country, we are nowhere near the level of awareness as a whole compared to countries in the east, especially Singapore with their experience with SARS in 2002.

I hope everyone is safe and sound over there, and this American Redditor is wishing you the best, and we'll get through this.

Cheers

Capt."

Incredibly knowledgeable and insightful. I see that Singapore's ministers aren't paid for nothing. No wonder Singapore is among the wealthiest nation in the world, let alone Sout East Asia. Really picked the right country to move to.

What an intelligent diplomatic man. Why aren’t there governments like this anywhere else in the world?

As Singapore’s TOP diplomat, he is tactful, skilful and nuanced. He makes sure that he do not anger both usa and China while at the same time framing COVID19 as a global challenge that’s indirectly pushes multilateralism. Well played !!! Dr Vivian

Vivian Balakrishnan and Tharman Shanmugaratnam are two of the most intelligent and well-spoken ministers in Singapore.

You have forgotten PM Lee himself. He was a President's Scholar, earned a first-class honours Bachelor's Degree in Mathematics as well as a Master's equivalent degree in Computer Science at Cambridge University, and later on another Master's Degree in Public Administration at Harvard University. What set LHL apart from even his late father was his achieving the Senior Wrangler title in his penultimate year at Cambridge. This title is described by some as the greatest intellectual achievement in Great Britain. The undergraduate degree in Mathematics, the Mathematics Tripos, is notoriously difficult, and the Senior Wrangler is the student who achieves the highest overall mark of their fellow Wranglers. Many Senior Wranglers went on to become distinguished mathematicians, physicists and scientists. LHL is one very very intelligent bloke.

Every time a question is asked, you can almost see his mind working overtime to draft a response that puts forth the best interest of every party involved. I’ve always respected this dude, but damn did he show the reason why he is our minister.

Only people such as the doctor in this video should be on news he addresses himself so well with such confidence on what he is talking about please educate your "reporters" and don't make this shit a political bullshit.

Being a Singaporean I'm a very proud and assured of how our government is handling this pandemic. They are proactive, prepared and organised. If you walked on the streets especially the heartlands, life had resumed to normal (almost). By imposing such extensive border control and surveillance, the government made sure lives for most civilians would be minimally disrupted and economy can rebound sooner. Thank you everyone in the frontline working hard to keep us safe!

I'm glad he didn't take the bait to start dissing the truly laughable state of unpreparedness of the US govt. His response was both dignified and respectful. (Although I'm pretty sure the doctor inside him is thinking to himself, "Those morons".)

Vivian’s interview won praise, with one American Twitter user calling it “calm, clear leadership.”

BTW if anyone wants to see what calm, honest, clear leadership during a crisis sounds like you could do a lot worse than listen to this with Singapore Foreign Minister Dr Vivian Balakrishnan https://t.co/5XhO5tDxRe

Once again there is clear proof that the PAP is the best!

Like I say. PAP loves foreigners and foreigners love PAP. Sinkies are fucked.

Sinkieland full of scholars who speak well, speaking well and getting the job done well is two different things. The Old Guard, only old fart speak well, but the real work are done by those that don't even go on camera to show their face. This Ang Moh talk cock, just bcos he see an Asian speaking engrish he is damn impressed.

I find it laughable that he has to remind sri jegarajah and martin sung that he's a doctor.

He is paid 3 times more than the POTUS...we can exchange him for his Donald anytime.

An eye doctor. Top earners in the private sector OK? So lucky you sinkies are getting a bargain!

In SG, we have a open leg policy. If any FT thinks we have such good leaders, they should migrate here. Good for them n their children.

He does not have Malay representation in him. So still not perfect.
And he is just like Lee hsien long in trying to mimic lky's way of speaking.

In their heads they cannot figure out why this man has a girl name.....

Seattle is bigger than Singapore and I bet he'll change his mind when he hears how much our ministers are paid.

The only part i agree is not writing off the americans... the U.S. has ample resources to counter this, it is just a moron who delayed, cut funding and treated it as a non-issue that will "go away in April" by itself that caused such mayhem. Most probably, a vaccine will come from a U.S. pharma, this shows the tremendous amount of levers and resources they have and could have done had they not been impeded by Trump. This time Trump got it wrong, other things he might not have been proven wrong yet, but his response to the covid-19 outbreak was pathetic.. second only to Italy.
