Promote Arts and Culture Sinkapore has but are Sinkaporeans really into these kind of stuff?

A small handfull I guess.

They just want your donations, http://give2arts.sg - love arts, love culture, love life. I love my $$$. ;)

The art scene here is a hollow scam. while the million dollar durian invite tourist to watch foreign artiste, local art societies get very little funding for their cause.

There is a fine line between art and rubbish. Unfortunately most of the time rubbish is being passed off as fine art.

Do any of you remember the guy who urinated on stage or the guy who cut off his pubic hair on stage?
Were they the same guy?
He or some others may think this is art, but I'm afraid that I would have to respectfully disagree.
One artiste I remember is Kit Chan, who is making her comeback in a musical, I believe. She may not have been "artistic" but I remembered her to be a great singer who sang with great emotion. It's a pity that she was not appreciated enough when she was a singer, and she went into the corporate world for a few years. Thankfully for all music lovers, she's back.

That is a good example of rubbish trying to pass off as art.

The Arts scene in singapore is driven by quantity rather than quality. This is because the KPI of the civil servants running the programs is based on attendance. To meet their KPIs, they therefore organise a large number of low quality, free events as opposed to doing proper development to put Singapore as a arts destination on the global stage.

And yet, if I recall correctly, he managed to get on stage and sell some tickets right?
Hilarious.

The only KPI for the civil servants is whether the ministar likes you or not.
And the only KPI for the ministars is whether someone likes them or not.
It's that simple.

I remember Josef Ng and his "snipping pubic hair" installation art. Just like food, one man's art is another man's rubbish. So let's live and let live.We do live in a strange world.;)

The people here who appreciate arts comes from a different background and also of different breed. How so? Their nose is raised so high it's practically on their forehead. Smug bastards.

If it's any consolation, same thing in booming Shanghai, went to a ballet, and one can see all the loaded people in town arriving in their evening best, but then you see them eating in the theater during the performance.
