Armed robbery gang crippled
IPOH: A gang of armed robbers who had been terrorising the people of Manjung and here since August has been busted with the arrest of four men. Perak police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Zulkifli Abdullah said the men, aged between 32 and 41, were believed to be involved in at least 15 armed robberies in Manjung and Ipoh involving RM1.1mil.
“Two of them were arrested in Ipoh and the others in Manjung during a police dragnet on Tuesday and Wednesday,” he told a press conference here yesterday. He said a Remington automatic pistol with six bullets, a Toyota Vios stolen in September, 11 mobile phones, four laptop computers, and six global positioning system (GPS) devices were among the items seized from the suspects.
“All of them have no steady job and have previous records involving theft, drugs and an offence under the Erosion and Explosive Substances Act 1958,” he said, adding that police were also investigating if the four were involved in other cases in the state. The four have been remanded until Nov 16.
