Armed Filipino seeking revenge held
KOTA KINABALU: A Filipino man, who came to Sabah to seek revenge for the murder of his family members, was arrested in interior Keningau for possession of a revolver and bullets.
The 37-year-old suspect was found with a Colt .38 revolver and 18 bullets after police spotted him behaving suspiciously near the Keningau town padang on Saturday.
Keningau district police chief Deputy Supt Zahari Mohamed said yesterday that the suspect had claimed that he came to Sabah in July to search for the killer of his parents and a sister in Patikul in the Philippines’ notorious southern Jolo island.
DSP Zahari said the man, who had no travel documents, had been living at Taman Kota Kongsi in Keningau since July and had worked as a labourer at a construction site since arriving in the state.
Zahari said the man was being investigated under Section 8(a) of the Firearms Act 1960 for possession of a weapon and bullets without a licence or permit.
If convicted, the suspect faces seven years’ jail or a RM10,000 fine, or both.
Meanwhile, Tawau police are still looking for a 21-year-old local, Muzakkir Abdul Hak, to assist in their investigations into the murder of a doctor, Dr Lim Tow Kiat, 49, at his house in Taman Bunga Tulip on Dec 8.
