What a joke
Argentine Judge Issues Arrest Warrant for Top Chinese Officials
On December 17, an Argentine judge issued arrest warrants for two former Chinese Communist Party (CCP) officials. It’s for their role in crimes against humanity committed against Falun Gong practitioners.
The judge’s order means that if the accused travel to a country that has an extradition treaty with Argentina, they could be detained and transported to Argentina for trial.
The accused are:
• Former head of the CCP Jiang Zemin, who spearheaded the campaign to persecute Falun Gong starting in 1999; and
• Former Politburo member Luo Gan, who oversaw the 610 Office, a Gestapo-like organization created to eradicate the spiritual group.
The ruling is similar to a decision in Spain last month, which called for the extradition of five top CCP officials on similar charges.
The ruling in Argentina is the first time an international capture order has been issued in the country to pursue crimes against humanity. It calls on the local Interpol department to seek out and arrest the two Chinese officials.
[Alejandro Cowes, Lawyer for Plaintiff]:
“From this order, Interpol has the possibility, or rather the duty, to—wherever they find them—capture, detain, place in solitary confinement, and bring them before the judge.”
In the landmark 146-page decision by Argentina federal court judge Octavio Araoz de Lamadrid, he writes: “The genocidal strategy … comprised a broad range of actions arranged in total contempt for life and human dignity.” He further writes that, “Torment, torture, disappearances, deaths, brainwashing, psychological torture were everyday occurrences.”
[Alejandro Cowes, Lawyer for Plaintiff]:
“This ruling sets the opening of universal jurisdiction for claims by victims of states committing crimes against humanity…If other nations follow the same step this could effectively put pressure on the CCP that is currently governing the country and allow a change to happen.”
Falun Gong, also called Falun Dafa, is a traditional Chinese discipline of meditation and exercises, whose teaching are based on the principles of Truth, Compassion and Tolerance. After Falun Gong gained enormous popularity in China, the Communist Party ordered it to be suppressed and launched a campaign of persecution that’s been ongoing for more than 10 years.
