THOUSANDS of electronic eyes scan Singapore every day, but how many of them are actually keeping watch? Closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras can be found almost everywhere you look, but not all of them are switched on. Some could well be complete 'dummies'. Salesman Gunesekaran Suppiah, 46, discovered this about two weeks ago when he approached the Sembawang Town Council for footage from the CCTV camera in the lift of a block of flats in Woodlands Drive 42 - only to be told that the cameras were simply shells, and not hooked up to any monitors, because of the high cost of maintenance.

The installation of such device is ensure that Town Council men working there gets commission and kickbacks .

As long as no one follows up . It is all in vain .

how about the cctv in buses and mrt ?

last week, I saw one incident in a packed train. one OL accused a guy, and shouted "dont touch me again ! otherwise i call police !!"

The guy turn around, and said.. "I didnt touch you, is someone else bag, you can go ahead and call police, there is cctv here !!"

but i was wondering, are the cctv working ??

So this is finally in the newspapers. Everyone knows for the last 20 years the speed cams at Cte, Pie are usually empty shells set up to scare racerboys.

Speed camera really work in PIE because I have kena fine.

There is film inside sometimes only la. The stationary cameras at expressways serve as a scarecrow. If they really want to catch speeding cars, the traffic police would use the mobile speedtraps.

those film camera and static one depends. it give the police an element of "doubt", "fear" to people who speeds.

mobile speedtraps adds to the random locations where the cameras can be deployed. again, to add doubt n fear.

there's really nothing stopping people to speed. as long as they have the points n money, they can do so.

as for those CCTV that's not working... erm.. what?
