Are shorters boasting?

Glaringly

I am not into share, but curious about people boasting that they are making money from the bear runs!

If it is so simple to short the market ( STI index ), why wouldn't everyone do it in the bear market?

If it is, then it doesn't takes a rocket scientist to know that in the bull runs, you just buy and sell later (hard to lose money) and in the bear market you sell away all you have and just short the market?

Anyone care to explain? Thanks in advance.

Shorters should not be too cocky during unpredictable times like this. Shorting may be suddenly banned, minimum margin requirements can be raised, especially if futures and forwards become unbearable for financial institutions to honour. This has happened before, historically in the financial world. Trust can be a very thin ice in times like these. Small players are advised to keep their money in their houses or banks. Such games are meant for big boys.

you are wrong. small players can short the market too if they have enough money to meet the margin requirement. some trading house adjust the margin up by 20% across all contracts recently.
but in a volatile market like this, you really have to know what you are doing. i ever short minidow before US stock market open and the futures market go against me. it was like -6k+USD. But when US stock market close 4.30am LT, i closed my position and made 10k+ USD that night. im a day trader, i don't hold any position over night.its the time of entry and exit regardless long or short.
