Singaporeans have long faced criticism for various behaviors abroad, but it is important to recognize that not all such incidents can be solely attributed to us.

Increasingly, the actions of new Singaporeans and unchecked migrants, many from other countries with questionable upbringing and values, are adding to the “disgrace rate” of Singaporeans on an international scale. While no nation is perfect and we have our flaws, these individuals amplify the negative perceptions unfairly.

Take, for instance, the case of Venus Ho, labelled as "Singaporean influencer", who dramatized a fake kidnapping at KSL in Johor Bahru. Her story, debunked by CCTV evidence, could have seriously damaged Johor’s tourism reputation. Her social media presence reveals her roots in Malaysia, with credentials and behavior far from what we typically associate with Singaporeans. If she holds Singaporean citizenship, her actions reflect poorly on the nation she now represents, highlighting the need for stricter scrutiny of migrants before granting citizenship.

Another example is the abuse of Ron95 fuel subsidies in Malaysia, meant strictly for locals. Offenders driving Singapore-registered cars have been caught exploiting this system, but many of them could very well be Malaysians with dual connections, looking to enjoy the best of both worlds. This puts law-abiding Singaporeans in a bad light, as the narrative unfairly shifts blame to us.

Malaysians who exploit dual connections to enjoy the best of both worlds, such as in cases like Venus Ho’s fabricated drama, should face double the consequences. Punishment in both countries, if found guilty, would ensure that their actions are met with the seriousness they deserve.

Their behavior undermines the systems and trust of both nations and unfairly drags Singapore’s reputation through the m&d. By holding them accountable on both fronts, it sends a strong message that such irresponsible behavior will not be tolerated, regardless of which side they claim to belong to.

While Singaporeans are no angels, it is undeniable that some new citizens and migrants bring with them poor habits and a lack of accountability, which sully the image of our nation. Singapore must take a stronger stance to ensure that the values and standards we uphold are not undermined by those seeking to exploit the benefits of citizenship without embracing the responsibilities that come with it.

At the same time, Malaysia should hold every individuals accountable and be transparent about their origins instead of allowing such ambiguity to tarnish bilateral goodwill.

It is time for both nations to address these issues with transparency and accountability. Singapore must protect its reputation by ensuring that new citizens align with its values, and Malaysia must expose the offenders' true backgrounds to prevent misplaced blame. Until this happens, Singaporeans will continue to suffer from the disgrace brought upon by individuals who have no regard for the image of the nation they represent.

JOHOR BARU, Jan 28 — A Singaporean woman, who claimed she was almost abducted at a shopping mall here last week, will be charged in the Magistrate’s Court here this morning for filing a false police report.

Johor police chief Datuk M. Kumar said the 45-year-old woman, who is also a social media influencer and content creator, is under state police custody.

He said the suspect will be brought and charged at the Magistrate’s Court here at 9am.

“The investigation papers have been referred to the Johor state legal advisor’s office and a decision has been made to charge the woman under Section 182 of the Penal Code for providing false information with intent to cause a public servant to use his lawful power to the injury of others,” he said in statement late last night.

Section 182 of the Penal Code provides for a jail term of up to six months, or a fine up to RM2,000, or both if convicted.

The state’s top police officer was commenting on report that was filed on January 22 by the woman, alleging that she was “nearly abducted and kidnapped” after a tea sampling at the KSL shopping mall here.

The woman, known as Venus Ho, had earlier on January 14, posted a video online cautioning others after her alleged ordeal.

Kumar said that in her report, the woman claimed she was approached by a couple who wanted to promote tea in conjunction with the coming Chinese New Year celebration.

“The woman alleged that she was forced by the couple to inhale the tea that they were promoting, causing her to feel dizzy and lose consciousness.

“However, police investigations found that the attempted abduction did not occur based on close circuit television (CCTV) footage and technical evidence pointing to the lack of movement at the scene,” he explained.

Kumar added that the unconfirmed abduction incident had in fact received negative feedback after it was widely circulated on several social media platforms.

He said some segments from the public believed that the incident had actually occurred and linked it to the issue of safety in Johor.

“The Johor police assure that the issue of safety and security involving public order in the state is under control. The police are constantly monitoring the security aspects in the state,” he said.

Kumar warned that strict action will be taken against any individuals who deliberately threaten the safety of others.

“This includes spreading unverified rumours or manipulating facts with the aim of causing social unrest.

“I want to also remind the public to check and verify the authenticity of any information on social media first,” he said.

Malaysians angered by woman allegedly pumping RON95 petrol into Singapore-registered car

A woman has allegedly been spotted pumping RON95 petrol into a Singapore-registered car at a gas station in Johor Bahru (JB).

On Thursday (23 Jan), TikTok user @_shahrahim_ shared a video of the incident, which has gone viral with 1.2 million views at the time of writing.

In the video, the OP was seen approaching a lady holding a petrol dispenser plugged into a red KIA car.

A few seconds later, she seemingly finished refuelling her vehicle and handed the dispenser back to a male employee.

As she turned around, the woman appeared shocked that she was being recorded.

“No wonder she parked at the end,” reads an in-video caption, seemingly implying the driver was attempting to avoid being seen by locals.

According to the OP, the incident happened at a Shell gas station in Taman Pelangi, JB.

For the uninitiated, RON95 petrol is subsidised by the Malaysian government — only Malaysia-registered cars are allowed to use the petrol.

Petrol station operators face a fine of RM1 million (S$307,674) for allowing foreigners to use RON95 petrol.

Malaysian netizens unhappy with driver’s actions

As the clip went viral, many Malaysian users took to the comments to criticise the woman’s actions.

One netizen suggested that staff at the petrol kiosk could be the ones who get in trouble if foreigners kept using RON95.

Translation: If we see a foreign car pumping RON95 petrol, we can press the emergency stop button (the red button)… that’s what the petrol station staff said. There’s even an official video that mentions it.

The CECA Indians do nor tarnish Sindiapore, but blackened Sindiapore

They should teach Hindi in schools instead of Tamil. Daddy Modi doesn't understand Tamil.

Tamil should be considered an Indian dialect similar to Hokkien, Teochew, Cantonese, Hakka etc, Hindi the 'standard' Indian language.
