There is a Chinese saying - “Every household has a ’sutra’ which is difficult to recite” to describe the inevitable clash of different personalities within a family as a natural phenomenon with time. It is human nature to disagree with each other and disagreements often lead to arguments and fights.
The PAP family has been remarkably “harmonious” after 50 years of uninterrupted rule. There were hardly any reports of infighting or disputes in the upper echelons of the party. Senior leaders seem be in 100% agreement with one another as if they are made of the same minds.
With the compliant media completely under its control, rumors of purported disagreements or quarrels between PAP leaders hardly get published. Leaders tried to put up a facade of unity and solidarity in public, but employ proxies behind the scenes to strike at each other through the media.
The latest “wayang kulit” was a protracted affair staged by two factions within the party, one belonging to the powerful Lee family and the other helmed by a respected elder statesman Goh Chok Tong.
