Apple's stand on defect leaves a sour taste

THE iMac by Apple is supposedly a computer on the leading edge of technology and has given much satisfaction to consumers in Singapore, but company policies on correcting manufacturing defects leave a sour taste.
A common defect in the iMac is the appearance of vertical lines on the monitor, which can be traced to a batch from a China-based factory.
The cost of replacement and labour by Apple's authorised service provider is easily more than half the cost of a new computer, with only a 90-day guarantee.
Apple knows about this defect and has so far refused to provide any recourse or discount. I hope this letter will inform Singapore consumers to 'buyer-beware' on this issue.

Although It isn't all plain sailing when there are issues. If you persist esp. when you have a valid complaint, chances are you get some satisfaction. You should insist and persist that you expect better and go all the way to the top if necessary.

A lot of companies are using China as manufacturing base and that's where the problem is!
Simple things like batteries -Duracell -made in China, although well made in appearance last only a fraction of the time of those original ones (which advertised with a drumming bunny). The China made ones are to be avoid like the plague! Don't be surprise if you find many of them leaking! I have had many leaking in my appliances, so if oyu are using Duracell constantly check both ends, esp. the -ve end!

They did a anti apple video and Apple later on started to offer warranty on iPod batteries.

Apple designers and engineers work together through every stage of product development. It’s a partnership that makes innovation possible."

The builders build what Apple designs. If the problem lies with the builder, then the issue likely should not be isolated to Apple.
