Anti-crime tips from police for elderly in Ang Mo Kio

SINGAPORE- In the Silver Watch scheme by Ang Mo Kio Police Division, officers will visit the homes of elderly residents to give crime prevention tips and assess their risk of falling victim to crime.
Police will also patrol areas where the elderly congregate, such as senior citizens' corners and taiji exercise areas, and give advice to them.
Assistant Commissioner Keok Tong San, commander of the Ang Mo Kio police division said snatch theft numbers have fallen in his area, but scams are on the rise.
One scam is telling victims they have won a lottery and can collect winnings after making a payment. Another is pretending to have kidnapped a family member and asking for ransom.
Silver Watch was launched yesterday by Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, a grassroots adviser and MP for the Ang Mo Kio Group Representation Constituency (GRC), at the annual Active Agers Carnival in Ang Mo Kio Central.
Held by the Active Ageing Committees of Ang Mo Kio GRC and Sengkang West single member constituency, the carnival also showcased local interest groups for older residents, from sudoku to making beaded items.
The Prime Minister later spent more than an hour touring the area with MPs Lam Pin Min and Seng Han Thong, meeting residents and speaking to shopkeepers.
