A POLICE officer who developed an intimate relationship with a Chinese national later set up an educational company with her to bring Chinese students here.
But to get entry visas for the Chinese nationals to visit Singapore, Assistant Superintendent of Police Ong Tat Wei, 36, allegedly persuaded his friends Lim Seng Khoon and Lai Hon Fei to act as sponsors for their visa applications.
Investigations showed that Ong and his girlfriend started a massage parlour, Dream Beauty and Spa, in Peninsula Plaza in 2005. They allegedly got Lim to be the licence holder, for which they paid him a monthly sum of $300.
Ong was yesterday charged with abetting his girlfriend to pay bribes to Lim and for abetting Lim and Lai to make false statements to public servants. He is out on $20,000 police bail and will appear in court again on Oct 1.
