A MASSIVE operation by the authorities over four days has led to more than 280 arrests for a wide range of crimes.
The arrests were made in Geylang, Joo Chiat, Orchard Towers and Woodlands, targeting places such as entertainment outlets, hotels, back lanes, lodging houses and forested areas.
The raid, which ended yesterday morning, was led by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and involved other branches of the police, the Central Narcotics Bureau, the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority as well as Singapore Customs.
The people were nabbed for crimes such as gang-related activities, immigration offences, illegal employment, peddling of contraband cigarettes, vice-related activities and drug consumption.
Public entertainment licensing breaches were also detected.
Such a wide-scale operation is part of its regular enforcement, the police said.
CID director Ng Boon Gay said: 'We have struck at the heart of these illicit activities and brought those who run afoul of the law to justice. This four-day operation has clearly demonstrated the resolve of our enforcement agencies to ensure that there will be no safe haven on our streets for criminals.'
Investigations against those arrested are ongoing.
