By Timothy Ouyang, Channel NewsAsia | Posted: 18 April 2009 1721 hrs
SINGAPORE: An underwater search for a man in the Singapore River early Saturday morning has been called off.

Police were alerted at about 5.40am that someone had fallen into the river around Coleman Bridge. The victim is believed to be a Singaporean in his early 30s.

Singapore Civil Defence officers searched the area upon arrival. At 8am, the Naval Diving Unit was activated to comb the waters.

Operations were called off at 12.30pm after naval divers failed to recover the body.

No witness accounts were available as to how the man fell into the river.

There are so many cases of attempted suicide everyday of late. Donch believe, ask around, especially those in their 40s and 50s. Mostly cos of $ no enuff. Fark PAPee!

He didn't commit suicide

It's the water surface that hit him

At first I thought it could be the pondan pest until I read that it was a man in his thirties.

there are alot of huge jellyfish in singapore river.
just need a couple of them to sting the poor guy a couple of times;
even a good swimmer would find it difficult to tolerate so many jellyfish stings and the undercurrent all at the same time.
perhaps he already knew this prior to his "fall" into the river.
r.i.p. to him.

Possible that there'll cum a day when so many jumped river that the jiat liao bee poodles gave up totally and let the corpses float to the Marina Bay barrage to be netted up once a week?

Oh oh.........! we will have to drink new water front that river.

Why so kaypoh one?

The young man had a quarrel with his girlfriend, and went to the Clark Quay area to drown his sorrow with a few bottles of Tiger. Unfortunately the Tigers were not enough for him, so he thought he could get more from the river. And the SCDF men were called in to join the party.

Happy with the explanation?

Singapore River so shallow, probably float downstream a few metres, get up and just walk home, hence no body.

Unfortunately, the body has been found.
Sad case, has the person's name been revealed yet?

Why? This is all makapaaa's fault, for not helping him.
