MALACCA - There has been another botched attempt to steal money from an ATM at a hypermarket in Bachang here, barely 12 days after robbers tried to blow up another machine nearby.
State Deputy CID chief Superintendent P.R. Guna- rajan said a security guard discovered the attempts to pry open the ATM at 8am yesterday.
"Our investigation showed that no cash was missing with minimal damage to machine.
"The thieves probably fled when the guards came around on patrol," he said yesterday.
Preliminary investigation also indicated that it could be linked to the Bandar Baru Utama case, in which robbers blasted an ATM at a Bank Rakyat branch on Aug 12 in a vain attempt to get at the money.
Three civil servants were arrested in connection to that case.
Meanwhile, Supt Gunarajan said police were looking into the possibility of the oxy-gang being involved in the goldsmith shop heist at Plaza Melaka Sentral on Tuesday.
