Remember PAP's service to nation
I CONGRATULATE the People's Action Party (PAP) for winning the toughest fight ever and also express my deepest sadness over this year's general election.
When Singapore was in recession, the PAP was the one to shoulder the burden. I didn't see anyone else coming up with constructive solutions. Now that Singapore's economy has recovered, everyone says he has a share in the pie.
I am saddened to see so many people voting against the PAP. Which party built Singapore and which was the one that went through all the turmoil? PAP.
Thanks for the many years of pain, sweat and effort your team has put in.

PAP's win was decisive
I AGREE with Mr Anthony Oei ("Reality check: It was a solid PAP victory"; Wednesday). Despite having quality opposition candidates and an unfavourable time amid job security, transport and housing woes, it was a landslide victory for the People's Action Party.
The majority trusted PAP's judgment and supported its policy decisions. They were not swayed by the opposition's arguments.
As for the Government being arrogant, uncaring and not listening, this is untrue. There are always many stakeholders in every problem. The Government has to try to satisfy the most number of people, at the same time bearing in mind national interests.
A lower ministerial pay is not in the interest of our nation. When you pay peanuts, you get monkeys.
The large influx of foreign workers in recent years was needed to grow our country. The temporary problems that arose with it were unexpected. The Government has taken steps to improve our transport networks.
Foreign talent created jobs and resulted in our full employment. Competition from foreigners kept our workforce productive through upgrading of skills. Employers enjoyed lower costs and kept their businesses alive.
Rising cost of living (inflation) is exaggerated. Our real income (income adjusted for inflation) has risen. With low inflation and a strong currency, the fundamental policies have been proved right.
Growing our GDP was not at the expense of the people's welfare. In fact, it increased our standard of living.
It is a myth that a strong opposition is good for Singapore. While constructive criticism is good for policymaking, endless debate and weak alternative views will only weaken our growth. It distracts ministers from focusing on their core jobs and results in a wastage of time and resources.
It is untrue that there is no room for proper debate in Parliament without elected opposition MPs. Non-Constituency MPs, Nominated MPs and PAP MPs provide diverse and quality views.
