SilkAir sorry for one-off malfunction that should not have happened

I REFER to Mr Stephen Powell's Forum Online letter last Saturday, 'No apology from SilkAir crew after seat belt comes off'. We are sorry to learn that Mr Powell was unable to fasten his seat belt during flight descent on his recent journey from Kuala Lumpur to Singapore.
This was unfortunately due to a loose bolt on the seat belt, which we immediately fixed after the flight.
We would like to assure Mr Powell that this was a one-off incident that should not have happened. We wish to highlight that checks on all seats and seat belts in the aircraft before departure showed no irregularities.
In addition, our senior cabin crew on that flight did not observe anything amiss when she conducted the usual cabin checks before landing; nor did she receive any complaints from passengers. She reported that all passengers had their seat belts fastened, tray tables stowed and window shades up for landing.
Upon disembarkation, she was approached by Mr Powell regarding the faulty seat belt and thanked him for his feedback. She then informed the captain about the matter and an engineer was called in to rectify the problem.
We are conscious of the fact that Mr Powell was concerned about his safety as a result of this seat belt problem and would like to express our sincere apologies.
We have since carried out checks on the remaining seat belts in the aircraft to ensure this incident does not recur.
SilkAir would like to assure all customers that our aircraft and seats are maintained, repaired and checked in accordance with stringent procedures by the aircraft manufacturers and local authorities.
