I do not believe it is stereotypical of the Singapore experience.'
MR SEAN WORRALL: 'I sympathise with the tourist whose misplaced camera was stolen at Jurong BirdPark ('Tourist's tale of two cities'; Wednesday). It is understandable how such an incident might cause Dr Saskia von Sanden to reconsider her erstwhile good opinion of Singapore. But I do not believe it is stereotypical of the Singapore experience. Only last week, I got into a taxi just as a group of well-dressed Korean businessmen were alighting. They could not speak English, and the cabby was struggling to make himself understood, but it was clear that he wanted to prevent them from leaving. Anxious to avoid a scene, the group leader came back to check. Why the commotion? One of the passengers had mistakenly handed over a $100 note instead of a $10 note. In any language, their show of gratitude and respect towards 'uncle' was plain to see.'
