<!-- START OF : div id="storytext"--><!-- more than 4 paragraphs -->HAVING lived in Singapore for more than 12 years and enjoyed the security, cleanliness and efficiency of this country, I cannot help but ask this question every time I walk from my home in Cairnhill Road to Paragon shopping centre in Orchard Road: What does the Traffic Police think of 13 motorcycles parked on the footpath?
It allows pedestrians to pass only in single file, it causes air and noise pollution as bikers start or stop their machines, and the beautification of this road is continuously trampled.
I recall reading that $40 million was spent to upgrade Orchard Road, but we have to negotiate our way past these motorcycles on a daily basis to visit Orchard Road.
I would like to know why this is permitted as an acceptable parking spot for motorcycles.
