A heavenly star might be descending upon Malaysia soon.
Hong Kong's 'Heavenly King' Andy Lau is contemplating applying for permanent resident status in Malaysia, according to Malaysian Chinese dailies.
The singer/actor is married to Carol Chu, 45, a former Malaysian beauty queen.
Chu, who is seven months pregnant, is expected to deliver their baby girl in Hong Kong some time in May.
Reports in China claim that the 50-year-old Lau might be hoping for Malaysian PR status to raise his baby away from the persistent and sometimes, intrusive media in Hong Kong.
According to The Star, Malaysian Home Ministry secretary-general Tan Sri Mahmood Adam said, "Generally anybody can apply for PR as long as they are married to a Malaysian."
He also added that Lau could opt for a Residence Pass instead.
This new initiative by the Malaysian government is renewable every five years and has been implemented with the sole purpose of attracting foreign talent.
"This is for talented people. If Lau is interested, a committee will check his application, just like any other person," said the secretary-general.
When posed with the question whether Lau would be a suitable talent for Malaysia, he exclaimed: "Of course!"
