"If we are lucky, it will be where we were before October."

So, based on luck rather than actual statistics and calculation.

It would probably be good news.

If not what is in it for him by saying such things now without any base?
If he says confirmed, then some would say would come out another version and say 'huh, he is behind SP Power, ah'

So the way he put it is a diplomatic way of telling good news to people without undermining the authority of MTI.
Let the MTI and SP Power confirmed the good news, if there is.

Increase price, people kb, price going to drop, also have things to say. :(

What I want to know is who the hell decide that $150 is a good price to buy for oil. How much did we lose by paying this forward price?

ELECTRICITY prices are set to come down by January due to sliding fuel prices in recent months.

Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong gave this good news at the People's Action Party (PAP) conference on Sunday, saying: 'I asked the Ministry of Trade and Industry, they said yes, by January, electricity prices should come down. If we are lucky, it will be where we were before October.'

What kind of a answer is that??

He calls this good news? Screw up by increasing 21% in the first place and then wait till Jan 09 to lower the prices? What has he done besides posing a question, one which everyone shouted to ask for justification, to MTI?

If he says SP will revert to the old prices, retroactive, and refund all the extra charges with interest, then I will acknowledge he is doing his over $3 million job for once.

As it is, this is just knee jerk reaction for damage control which indicates that elections are earlier than 2011.

You go tell that to the ang mohs. They are the ones playing it. We are not the only ones paying it. Other non-oil producing countries too.

What has that got to do with anything? The fact of the matter is someone somewhere have made a mistake. A very costly one.

But of course. In this period of flux, no one can be certain that the world political and economic scene will behave like what you learn in a textbook. If he is, then he is superman. You will definitely agree that PM Lee is not a superman of course, though he is a capable leader.

What with a new untested President in the USA and the financial institutions still not in order, any thing can go. What the major world leaders are doing is to prevent the worse scenario from happening - even then the huge amount of funds MAY not put the economy in order.

So it is understandable that PM Lee is trying to be prudent - not reckless by promising this and that to make the electorate happy.

Why should it still be at Oct 08 level. Should it not be back to 2004 levels? Any more doubt that the price of electricity is Familee controlled? Fxxx the Familee!

The price hike was unjustified, as a prime minister he should have intervene if he has any welfare at heart in the first place. Even if the price were to go down, it'll just be a relief, nothing good news to shout about. The people had paid for bills that're unjustly charged.
