SINGAPORE - The Institute of Mental Health (IMH) has launched the Singapore Schizophrenia Network (SSN) to bring together agencies involved in providing mental healthcare and support to those affected by schizophrenia.
The network will provide a common platform for partner agencies to share information on services and programmes offered by network members.
Partner agencies will also be able to learn best practices and research findings.
This will reduce the duplication of efforts and encourage collaborations, and result in better treatment, care and support for schizophrenic patients and their families, IMH said.
Schizophrenia - which is a chronic psychiatric disorder that requires long-term medication and treatment - affects nearly one per cent of the population.
IMH said that it is through generating more awareness about the condition that the stigma of schizophrenia and other mental issues can be reduced.
