A man from Taiwan has allegedly had his hand chopped off to collect insurance.
Police have turned the man over to the prosecution services after claiming he hired two men to sever his hand in order to claim insurance worth US$730,000.
Chiang Chi-wei, 38, told police that he had been attacked by two men who had chopped off his left hand.
Police in Chunghe, a satellite city of Taipei, became suspicious because blood stain patterns on the ground were concentrated in one area.
Chiang was apparently in debt and had bought insurance policies from a dozen different companies.
Last week, police arrested two men who claimed that Chiang had hired them to knock him unconscious and chop off his left hand.
Police say the insurance money was designed to pay off debts which Chiang's company had racked up.
