PARIS: Telecom equipment giant Alcatel-Lucent said on Thursday that it will cut an extra 850 jobs as part of restructuring in France, and union sources said another 150 jobs would be transferred away from the company.
The group has been through a long period of cuts and boardroom upheavals since France's Alcatel and US group Lucent merged.
A company spokeswoman told AFP on Thursday that the company in France had told union representatives of a plan to shed about 850 staff to cut overheads.
Trades union sources said that 150 jobs at Alcatel-Lucent France, the main subsidiary of the group in France, would be outsourced.
On July 8, unions were told of a plan to shed about 1,000 jobs by next year, but the management had not announced this while waiting for the meetings on Thursday. - AFP/de
