NEA says that have issued Ah Yat Seafood Restaurant in Main Grandstand Turf City with a fine following an inspection where officers found the restaurant’s kitchen to be dirty and poorly maintained.
In an earlier post date June 21, STOMPer Cath wrote in after finding two cockroaches in two out of the eight dishes she ordered at Ah Yat Seafood Restaurant in Main Grandstand Turf City. She hoped that relevant authorities would take action on the cleanliness regarding this restaurant.
In an email to STOMP today (Jul 6), a spokesperson from NEA says:
“During a routine inspection of Ah Yat Seafood Restaurant at Turf City in May 2009, we had found the kitchen dirty and poorly maintained. The operator was fined and four demerit points were imposed
“Following Ms Catherine Chia's feedback on 21 Jun 2009, our check of the Ah Yat Seafood Restaurant at Turf City confirmed cockroach infestation at the premises. We again found the kitchen dirty and poorly maintained.
“We have taken enforcement action against the management for the lapses. The management has also been required to spruce up the premises and alert their pest control operator to exterminate the cockroaches within its premises. Ten demerit points will also be imposed for the lapses.
“Under our current regulatory regime any food shop that accumulates 12 demerit points or above within a year will have their license suspended for 2 weeks. Hence, upon conviction of these offences, the operator would have accumulated 14 demerit points. NEA would then proceed to suspend the license for two weeks, and also review its hygiene grading.
“We will continue with audit checks.”
