Microsoft picks EVP Nadella as new CEO: Report

Microsoft Corp. (MSFT)’s board is preparing to make Satya Nadella, the company’s enterprise and cloud chief, chief executive officer and is discussing replacing Bill Gates as chairman, according to people briefed on the process.

One person the board is considering to take the place of co-founder Gates as chairman is Microsoft’s lead independent director John Thompson, said the people, who asked not to be identified because the process is private. Gates, 58, may still play an active role at the Redmond, Washington-based company that he founded in 1975, depending on the wishes of the board and new CEO, said the people.

Nadella emerged as one of the stronger candidates to replace departing CEO Steve Ballmer weeks ago, people familiar with the search have said. The plans aren’t finished, said the people.

Thompson, who is heading the CEO search, wrote in a blog post last month that the board plans to complete a search for CEO in the “early part of 2014.” He said the board started with more than 100 candidates and has since narrowed the list. Ballmer, 57, said last August that he planned to retire within a year.

The last notable Ah Neh CEO was in Citibank until he was forced to resign. How long will this Ah Neh last?

Born in Hyderabad, India, he attended Hyderabad Public School in Begumpet[2] before getting a Bachelor of Engineering in Electronics and Communication from the Manipal University.[1][3][4]
After moving to the US, Nadella earned a Master of Science degree in Computer Science from the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee, and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Chicago.
Nadella worked with Sun Microsystems as a member of the technology staff before joining Microsoft in 1992. At Microsoft, he worked as the senior vice president of R&D for the Online Services Division and vice president of the Microsoft Business Division. Later, he was made the president of Microsoft’s $19 billion Server and Tools Business and led the transformation of the business and technology from client-server software to cloud infrastructure and services.

What happen to Ellop? He engineered the Collapse of Nokia and got M$ to buy it out!

Microsoft's senior management is filled with incompetent people, Satya Nadella is just much less incompetent than the others.

In any case, Microsoft's days are numbered.

So boring. Can't we have an American CEO for an American company? No one is observing your EO.

Rubbish. You need Microsoft office and Windows server for business to run.

You don't need Windows servers, there are non-Microsoft options for a business server.

And as for Microsoft Office and Windows, if you have been following Microsoft you'll know that they are pushing for a 'software as a subscription' business model. Hence Office 365 was released. Soon it will be Windows' turn.

Mr Nadella was in charge of the division for enterprise cloud computing. If he is appointed as CEO, you can more or less know which direction Microsoft will go.

Whats interesting is Apple giving free iworks as part of their OS now. OSX Mavericks are given out free for anyone that can run it. Google with chrome OS, Android with Google docs comes "free" as well.
