Not only did this girl eat on the train, she also ignored a STOMPer when asked to give up her priority seat to an old man.

Paul told STOMP via email yesterday (Jun 9):

"Today, I saw a loving old couple board the train.

"As I was sitting on the seat classified as 'Reserved Seat', I stood up and offered the old lady my seat.

"She rejected me politely initially, but I insisted that she should sit regardless if she has 2 or more stops to go.

"She accepted my offer and thanked me.

"Her husband was left standing, gripping tightly to the hand-bar, in case, for safety reasons.

"There, sitting opposite was a young girl.

"She pretended that she did not see this poor old man.

"She carried on eating on the train.

"She carried on chewing on her stupid candies.

"I walked up to her and pointed at the sign 'Reserved Seating' and asked her to offer her seat to the old man.

"She looked at me, then at the poor old man, and looked away.

"Either she is deaf, mute or she does not understand a single word I've said to her.

"But I pointed at the sign 'Reserved Seating' and the old man.

"I guess even a deaf or mute would understand what is the message I'm trying to put across."

First of all, there is no law that says only those sitting on "reserved" seats must give way, hell, there is no law that says you must give way.

Sesond, did the stomper ask other seated passengers to give up their seats? Why is the stomper singling out the girl? All other seated passengers are equally "guilty".

She paid her fare, she is entitle to a seat, oldy pay half price...we pay full fare!...

It is our social conscience that we offer our seat to another, not some asshole, who directs us on what to do.

We may have medical, or mental or other problems to sit down... every seat is reserved, reserve for paying customer...those who pay more, are entitled to seat down first...

Don't believe...go check the hospitals etc...pay more..you get!!

Maybe SMRT/SBS TRANSIT should start a system like this:
Before the train doors open, announce:

1. Old people first, reserve seats only, sitting in other seats, a penalty will be charges.
2. Pregant women, reserve seats only.
2. Parents with young children next, no reserve seats.
4. Unwell, those with medical condition
5. All others
