SINGAPORE: Singapore's Health Ministry said the seven Singaporeans who stayed in the same hotel as Hong Kong's index Influenza A (H1N1) case and who are currently quarantined there are doing well.

Hong Kong's Metropark Hotel has been sealed off since last Friday, following the discovery that a Mexican visitor had tested positive for the H1N1 virus.

A Singapore permanent resident, who is under quarantine at the same hotel, told Channel NewsAsia over the phone on Tuesday that he has been keeping himself busy by working on his computer.

Mark Moore, managing director of a workplace solutions company, said his work has been affected by the quarantine but he is resigned to the situation.

He said the food provided has not been good, although guests are now able to order pizzas and are also supplied with fruits and drinks.

Mr Moore understood that they would be released on Friday at 8.30pm, but expressed concern about the infection control measures there.

"Initially, we had to go to the mezzanine floor to be health tested. There's a question mark there. When the guests have not been tested, surely it would make more sense to do the initial health checks room-to-room, rather than have everyone come together in a common area.

"Of course, people were wearing masks. But still... at that point, the authorities didn't know whether anyone else was infected, so potentially they were exposing us to one another.

"In fact, about 12 people or so were taken to hospital for further examinations and none of them, at least to my knowledge, have been confirmed with H1N1," he said.
