SINGAPORE - After the Auditor-General's Office (AGO) took issue with the Ministry of Manpower's (MOM) purchase of 472 office chairs at more than S$570 each, the Attorney-General's Chambers (AGC) and SPRING Singapore have also come under fire online for similar transactions.
In response to TODAY's queries, the AGC and SPRING reiterated that their respective purchases were in line with procurement rules and best practices, with both agencies citing the longer period of warranty - 12 years - as one of the factors they took into consideration.
The MOM was among the public agencies cited in the AGO's latest report released last week, over the ministry's purchase of Herman Miller designer chairs in March last year. According to the report, the AGO had acted on a complaint and it took the MOM to task for not taking into account cost-effectiveness in the evaluation and ranking of the bids.
Following the AGO's report, a blogger pointed out that - based on tender documents and award information on government procurement portal GeBIZ - the AGC had bought, in March, 200 ergonomic chairs at S$597 each while SPRING bought 28 Herman Miller chairs last month for S$650 each.
