WITH Parliament's busiest season of the year over, MPs are taking stock of the marathon Budget debate they sat through over the past two weeks.

Whether a bright-eyed first-termer or a long-time backbencher, they were quick to suggest ways to improve the usefulness of the annual session.

Top of the wish list: More vigorous and unscripted debate, a desire also expressed by Leader of the House Mah Bow Tan in his closing remarks on Friday.

In commending instances of lively debate, Mr Mah said he hoped there would be more such exchanges and 'free flowing debate' in future years.

'If necessary, we will fine-tune the rules and be more flexible to facilitate this,' he said.

He did not elaborate, but about 20 members of the House interviewed yesterday were swift to give their ideas.

spread over 2 calendar weeks but in fact only 10 work days - considered marathon ? No more yardstick for reality check & re-defining the meaning of 'marathon'.

Come on, besides, less than half the House was full at any one time is the impression most get ..... what false enthusiasm ! :oIo:
